There is a growing abundance of digital services available to enhance teaching, learning, and administration and limited resources to address pain points in protecting privacy. How do we best support teachers and administrators in evaluating and managing privacy risks in order to achieve the benefits of using technology to support student-centred learning? How do we address these rapidly evolving issues in real time? What are some key practical considerations and good practices?
Join this session to learn about rightsizing your school authority’s approach to protecting privacy. You will learn about Privacy Impact Assessments, why they are needed, when to conduct one, how to work with your FOIP coordinator on completing a PIA, and other tools and approaches for protecting privacy. You will have the opportunity to provide input on Edmonton Public School Board's draft framework for privacy decision making that will
-   involve schools in governance and accountability for privacy due diligence;
-   assist school authorities with having the necessary conversations about privacy with principals and teachers; and
-   help school authorities determine when privacy decisions need to be made at the school level vs. the district or division level.
