Privacy and Security! The connected classroom is now the reality, with teachers leveraging more online services than ever before. But as data breaches become more frequent, school administrators need to consider how these online services are protecting their data.

Cybera and Alberta Education have been working with 12 Alberta school authorities on a two-year pilot to develop an Alberta Identity Federation called myUnifiED. Our goal is to prove that Identity Federations can work in Alberta by developing a trust framework (ie. policies) and infrastructure that is adaptable and reliable. To date, the pilot has connected eight identity providers and six services to the federation (including Google and Microsoft 365).

In this session, we will discuss our experiences during the pilot and answer the following questions:
- What is the difference between Federated Identity Management (FIM) and Identity Management?
- How does FIM help address privacy and security concerns?
- How does FIM give me more control over my data?
- How do I connect?
- What type of services can be connected?
