Cyber Security Need: Within the last few years, the importance of cyber security has increased significantly due primarily to the proliferation of hacktivists, cyber criminals, and other destructive forces. The increasing cost and complexity of effective programs and safeguards however, have made the task of cyber security difficult for organizations to manage solely on their own. As a result, companies are increasingly seeking outside expertise through Managed Security Services (MSS) providers.
Made in Alberta Solution: The Government of Alberta, through Service Alberta, has completed a competitive procurement for a provider of Managed Security Services (MSS). They were seeking a leading provider, with a proven track record, that will continue to evolve security services, be proactive and adaptable, and add value beyond the specific requirements of the contract. In December, 2015, CGI was selected as the MSS provider for a period of seven years (with a possible extension for up to three years). The provisions of this contract allow other approved organizations to access these security services. “Approved Organizations” includes: hospitals, as defined in the Hospitals Act, schools, post-secondary educational institutions, municipalities, Métis settlements and any organizations that carry out services or programs on behalf of the Government of Alberta including crown corporations.
Security Services: The following security services are available to approved government organizations from Service Alberta through the contract established with CGI:
- Security Information and Event Management
- Web Threat Management
- Infrastructure Vulnerability Management Service
- Web Application Vulnerability Management Service
- Network Intrusion Prevention Service
- Firewall Management Service
- Information Security expertise (at hourly or monthly rates).
