Wondering what this ‘Gamification’ thing is all about?
Is it something you could apply in your classes?
Katrin has been experimenting with elements of what is now called "Gamification" in her classes for nearly 20 years. This talk will provide an overview of Katrin's 4 C's of Gamification that she's been implementing in her classroom, and the effect this is having.
1. Choice (Customized vs Standardized)
2. Cumulative Scoring (Learning vs Sorting)
3. Criterion Referenced (Criterion Referenced vs Norm Referenced)
4. Competence (&Creation & Completion) (Attainment Based vs Time-Based)
This talk will briefly outline what gamification is (and isn't), what's new (and isn't), and how adding the right game elements to a course can improve student engagement and satisfaction.
