Sonia Boctor

Ms. Boctor received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Math/Science from the University of Alberta in 1999. Upon graduating, Sonia began her teaching career with Edmonton Public Schools where she saw great success with her students. During the early days of her teaching career, she also completed her graduate studies receiving her master’s degree in elementary math education, while balancing being a mother to two wonderful girls. Over the past nine years of her career, Sonia has worked in a variety of central departments within Edmonton Public Schools. She began with Resource Development Services and Curriculum where she was involved in the development of multiple teaching and learning resources and in supporting bilingual teachers in their instruction of math in a target language. This was followed with a period of time in Projects and Research where Sonia was involved in leading various district projects and initiatives in support of teaching and learning. During that time, Sonia received her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. This certification, combined with her educational background, have contributed to her most recent role as Manager for Strategic Supports Services. This role saw her spearheading a number of key district initiatives to advance the work of creating a culture of evidence-based decision-making within Edmonton Public Schools. Key District initiatives included the development of an annual District Feedback Survey, the Development of the District's Strategic Plan, the creation of the Annual Education Results Report (AERR) and the development of the District's Internal Dashboard. In addition, Sonia has also fulfilled the role of instructor at the University of Alberta, teaching the Elementary Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction course for undergraduate education students, and has spent some time guest-speaking for other University level classes.
